4. Room Temperature Meals
When you’re experiencing a serious loss of appetite, chances are, even the aroma of some of your favourite dishes can cause your stomach to recoil in disgust. So, you must take extra care to make sure the aroma of your meals is perfectly appealing. We recommend you to eat meals consisting of cold recipes, and foods that are served at room temperature, because when our meals cool down, they are less aromatic, and you get to really enjoy their taste.
You can experiment with refrigerated meals, cold chicken recipes, cold sandwiches with a powerful protein boost of seafood assortments like tuna, salmon salads, chicken recipes and egg varieties. You can also enjoy a liberal amount of tomatoes in your salads, sauces and sandwiches, and you must incorporate bean salads and whole grain items in your daily diet.
5. Consider Taking Appetite Stimulants
There are several effective medications that work to stimulate your appetite and help you enjoy your favourite meals as passionately as you always did. However, you must discuss its health benefits with your oncologist before investing and adding it to your diet regime.
Appetite stimulants, like Dronabinal, megestrol acetate (Megace), mirtazapine (Remeron), have proven successful in helping cancer patients increase their appetites, however, there also have been some slightly disturbing claims regarding their effects. For instance, Dronabinal has been linked with the same brain effects that occur under the influence of marijuana.
Medications always come with certain side-effects, and like there’s a chance that appetite stimulants may work in your case, there’s also a fair chance that they may harm the success of your treatment. It’s best to let your oncologist decide if taking such medicines is necessary.
