Type 2 diabetes is a chronic disease where your body’s glucose level is disturbed because the disease either hampers the production of insulin or it becomes resistant to insulin.
Some symptoms are commonly associated with diabetes. These include feeling thirsty all the time, feeling of numbness in limbs as well as constant urge to urinate.
There are 5 other signs, given below, that can be caused by diabetes:
1. Dark Colored Patches
If you notice dark colored patches with a smooth and velvety feel these may be caused by increased blood sugar level. This condition is called “acanthosis nigricans”. It usually occurs on the neck and areas such as elbows and knuckles with folds of skin.
This condition may be caused by genetics but may as well be caused by a high level of glucose in the blood. High cell growth is caused in the skin by insulin and melanin the coloring pigment causes these patches to be dark. If a person notices these patches they should get tested for blood sugar level. The tests can show diabetes or can indicate a high glucose level in blood which is an indication of diabetes development.
To cure this condition doctors would either recommend losing some pounds to lower the high level of sugar ultimately clearing the patches or a laser treatment with a dermatologist.
